Founded by Sankar Venkateswaran in 2007, Theatre Roots & Wings has been on the cutting edge of contemporary theatre since its inception. Its first production, Quick Death (2007), opened 3rd International Theatre Festival of Kerala 2010. Making its own inputs to the inquiring and experimenting spirit of contemporary world theatre with its second play Sahyande Makan – The Elephant Project (2008), a collaborative piece with renowned actress Micari from Japan, the company continues to explore the potentials of theatre as an independent medium with acting at its heart. In 2011, the company co-produced Shogo Ohta's silent play The Water Station with The Japan Foundation, New Delhi with an all-India cast. Henrik Ibsen's When We Dead Awaken (2012) is the latest production.
The company also offers resources to practitioners and students of theatre, providing comprehensive knowledge, workshops, study materials, practice plans and new methodologies to make theatre that is meaningful to the community.
